Cracks found in new public works floor cause some concern
(by Kimberly Redmond - October 01, 2008)
Nearly a month after the DPW moved into its new facility on Rivervale Road, a problem has emerged concerning the flooring. Cracks have been found in small cracks in the floor sealant, “which is designed to handle everyday wear and tear,” according to Mayor Joe Blundo.
Since the building is quite new, having only been built a few months ago, this issue raises questions about the stability. “Wear and tear should happen over a considerable amount of time, not after a few weeks,” Blundo explained.
Following the discovery of the cracks, the manufacturer, Benjamin Moore, was called in three times to inspect the floor and a contractor reapplied sealant on the floor.
Blundo stated that the DPW superintendent, as well as the township council, would continue to monitor the situation.
