'Pocket park' ordinance passed
(by Megan Burrow - August 19, 2008)
A bond ordinance authorizing the creation of a “pocket park” in the
Township
of
Washington
was adopted by unanimous vote at Monday night’s council meeting.
The ordinance appropriates $145,000 for a new park and authorizes the issuance of $137,750 in bonds to finance the appropriation. The money includes a down payment of $7,250. A grant of $61,137.50 from the
Bergen
County
open space fund will reimburse the town for approximately half the cost of the project.
The land at Birch and Beech Streets is currently undeveloped and is located in the northwest part of town, which lacks park space. It will be geared toward children age five and under and their parents and will feature a playground, benches, and picnic tables.
